Dear Parents,

The first, Class Information Evenings were held between the 5th and 8th of October 2009. Gence Preschool would like to thank all parents who were able to attend the meetings. We look forward to a more fruitful affiliation with our parents now that we, the Gence family, know each other better. We hope you found the meetings enjoyable and now have a clear insight into what our aims and philosophies are for educating your children. For the parents who could not be with us during the meetings and as a review for those who were, please find below a précis of what was discussed.

THANK YOU

We would like to thank all of you for the food you sent in for our Ramadan and Harvest table. You can be sure that all the food you sent is given to the poor and needy before Ramadan Bayram.

BOOKS

We would like to inform you that your child will be following books suitable for their age group and language level during 2009-2010 Academic Year.
The books have been delivered to our school. You can get information about their prices and the delivery conditions from the Reception desk.

NURSERY RHYMES AND CHANTS

For the lyrics and/or CD’s of the nursery rhymes and chants, you can always contact your child’s teacher. We would again mention the importance of nursery rhymes and chants in language teaching, as they are full of repetition and rhythm.

LABELLING

Please do not forget to put name tags/labels on your child’s clothes with a permanent pen. Nearly all children have the same brand name underwear. Although we pay maximum attention not to mix them up, sometimes it becomes confusing to sort out the clothes.

HEALTH

We have consulted with Doctors and other schools on the best preventative measures for the spreading of the H1N1 virus (swine flu).  At this present time we do not have a confirmed case of the disease in our school.
Our precautions and plans to combat H1N1/09 virus are as follows-

*Every hour wash hands
*Liquid gel hand sanitizer in all corridors are available for children during the day.
*With very strong sanitizer we are disinfecting daily, tables, door handles, toys, tabs, flushes, electric switches etc.
*We are discussing with the children about how infection can spread and encouraging less physical contact.
* If a child has a temperature of over 37. 3 we will send the child home.
*When sneezing use a paper napkin, if hands are used wash hands immediately.

We would like to highlight again; when you send in medicine, please do not forget to fill in the form and label the bottles. On the labels do not forget to write the proper dosage and time. It is important for your child  recovery to receive the proper dosage on time.

You can download the “Over the Counter Medication Form” from our web-site under the title of “Illness”.

COMMUNICATION

As we mentioned at Class Information Evenings, the communication notebook is not only for the teachers to pass information to you, but also for parents to inform us about the child. So, if you would like to ask any questions or inform us about the situation at home, like not having a good night sleep or quarrels between you and your child, do not hesitate to write in the communication notebooks. It is important for the teachers to understand the moods of the child, then she will be best equipped to handle the situation.

ALL AROUND THE WORLD: SWITZERLAND

All Around the World is a 10 month Project which allows your child to learn about the world around them. This is a beneficial project because it is important for your child to know about and experience different races, cultures and traditions.
This month’s country is Switzerland, so we would appreciate it if you could send in any materials, such as brochures, little souvenirs, recipes, games or anything you think would be useful, related to Switzerland.

PARADE & PARTY

TURKISH REPUBLIC DAY will be celebrated in our garden on Monday the 26th of October 2009. We will have a parade with our children carrying Turkish Flags. If your child has a Turkish flag emblem t-shirt it would be great if they could wear it for this special occasion.

Furthermore, a COSTUME PARTY to celebrate HALLOWEEN will take place first thing in the morning of Tuesday the 27th of October 2009. We would like the children to be at school dressed up in their Halloween costumes. Please provide the children with an outfit to change into after the party, as they will continue their studies when the Party is over.

Please note that our school will be closed on Wednesday afternoon the 28th of October, as well as full day Thursday the 29th . Remember that the children must be picked up before 12.00 hrs on Wednesday, as there will be no lunch served.

E-MAIL CONTACTS

Please make sure  that we have your e-mail address as soon as possible. Families who were with us last year need to update their records if the address has changed. We will send out one more Newsletter in this format, then all letters will come via e-mail.

LAST WORD

We will be celebrating Halloween on Tuesday the 27th of October. In the lead up to this time, your child will be busy having fun, making lots of Halloween arts and crafts which will decorate our school. We hope you enjoy the spooky décor!

For the Halloween Party, we greatly appreciate your support for the costumes/accessories to help make this occasion a fun time for your child. We will remind you about the party and the costumes/accessories once more just before Halloween.

The Gence Team would like to wish you all a peaceful October and a Happy Halloween!
